79 Trike Solenoid Click
I have a 79 HD that I am working and I am lost. Never done a gold cart before. I have everything all wired up I am assuming correctly according to the diagram. All I can get it is clicking. I do not have a key switch just an on off style push switch. Is 12.1 enough juice to get the starter turning? I don't know this is the selonoid itself or not. I am clueless. I tried jumping the selonoid and didn't get anything at all. Is there something I am missing?

Re: 79 Trike Solenoid Click
There is many reasons that could cause your problem but to narrow it down; Since you are sure it is wired right and have eliminated the solenoid by shorting around it we only have a couple of things to look at. If you have voltage on the (out) side of the solenoid the voltage goes through the R/F switch and to the start motor I suspect the F/R switch is defective or wired wrong. If the F/R switch is OK then suspect the start motor. The procedure to check it is in the manual. If you do not have it PM me your e-mail address and I will send you the procedure.

Re: 79 Trike Solenoid Click
I have it but thank you very much. I tore apart the F/R and it didn't look good. I plan on ordering the parts to rebuild it today. May just but a brand new one. Thanks for your help!

Re: 79 Trike Solenoid Click
Do what you can to keep/restore the base plate on the F/R switch. As of late this part is unavailable. Contacts, springs, felt seals and the lever is avaiable thou. On my buddies, it was sure good we didn't throw away his broken in many pieces base plate as we had to JB weld it back together. Now its works as good as new.

Having the same issue, will need to look at this! The F/R switch I am assuming is the foreward/reverse switch??

Yes! That is the same switch. Surplus center has 2 reversing solenoids that should work.
Look on line for Surplus Center. |

You want to make sure that the motor is grounded also.
