Default Swap large Harley carb for small?

My 1986 Columbia Harley motor doesn't have a carb. I have the larger carb but the mounting holes are too small and the throttle shaft needs drilled for the cable. I don't have a good drill press. Is it worth the trouble? Thanks.

my call is no, cause if you screw up, you need a new carb, you can prob ask on here and get a used one for cheap. some will even rebuild them and have them ready to run for you for a few extra bones. dont quote me, but i think graigscarts might be able to help you out with a used part. if you have to go new, site sponsors are a good shot! and you help bgw in a way too!

We are thinking alike, if the holes are off just a little, it could mess things up. My drill press wobbles when cutting metal so that won't work. I'll check the ads. To convert to the newer carburetor would be expensive. The original carb was all ate up with corrosion. This large one looks like new inside.

Here are some pictures. The local cart fixer said he would charge $100 for a used small one. Maybe I can find one in Florida. Lots of carts and golfers are quitting.

I would use an original carb if possible for it was a match for the engine. I have seen several advertised. Have you tried your local small engine repair co. Older air cooled engine repair businesses are a good source for parts like this.
