Default 82 D3 turns over slowly

Just bought this HD and rebuilt the carb, have good spark and a good battery. If I remove the spark plug it will turn over real good, but put the plug back in and it will barely turn over. Have cleaned all the wiring connections but no luck. The starter generator tests good. What do you think? Could it be the reed valve? Am thinking that maybe it is clogged and causing too much compression...

Does it run or fire at all? Smells like a bad genarator. Why did you rebuild the carb and how bad was it when you pulled it apart ?

Check the drive clutch, be sure it opens all the way.

The carb was not too bad, just been sitting for a few years. I have not got it to fire because I can't get it to turn over fast enough. The starter generator bench tests good, also I have good blue spark. Can someone please tell me how I can wire the battery straight to the starter, that way I can eliminate all the wiring in between the key switch and the starter. I have tested the solenoid and it tests good. As I said I don't understand why it won't turn over fast enough to draw fuel or even fire. The drive belt is not on it so I know it is not the clutch hanging up
