Post why is my g9 cdi getting hot

I have a 1991 g9 that the cdi gets hot. I have replaced the coil and cdi 1st cdi sizzled where wires go into unit. The 2nd cdi is getting hot in same area. The cart fires up right away with no problems.

The wires coming from the pickup are red/white ...... black/white and a bare? Groundwire.

The voltage regulator is different from the one shown on diy carts Mine is the square one with the billet type ridges on top not the smooth one pictured
