Need to Identify Utility Body Harley Cart - Early 70's
Does anyone know if Harley / Columbia ever built a utility bed cart in the early 70's? I'm going to go pick one up that has a flat bed on it, and the way the body looks in the pictures, I thought it had been modified as the bed sits at a level just above the body flare above the rear wheels. I spoke with the older couple that owns it and they said that it's a molded fiberglass body under that bed with no signs of having been modified.
In other words, it's not a molded recess with raised sides for golf bags, but a flat surface with a utility bed bolted to it. Let me know if there was such a model. I'd say it was 70 to 74 or so. Will know for sure when I pick it up next weekend. Just want to know what I can learn about other models of these carts in those days. To expand on that, from the seats forward it looks just like my cart. I do know it's an AMF. |

I knew it had to be an oddball ..... the utilicar pics I found all show a funky cab front end, not an open front like this one. I think it's kinda cool! I wonder if that other gauge is a speedo??? I know they were options on some models.

So an amp meter on a gas cart? Is that odd?

you have one for your car dont you? it might be a gauge that has a d on the left side and a c on the right. d meaning discharge and c meaning charge. that and a temp gauge is all i had on my old plymouth valaint. the rest were idiot lights. other then the fuel gauge that never worked and a speedo.

Re: Need to Identify Utility Body Harley Cart - Early 70's
Nope. My 79 has NO gauge .... no gas sending unit in a plastic tank anyway, and no amp gage. It's just a "D" .... no options at all. Has an ignition switch and a choke knob on the tower and that's IT!
My son is picking up this thing tomorrow for me. Pretty excited to see if I got a pig in a poke! BUT, that ratty 74 I have saved me as the points cam plate on mine was apparently shot which is why the **** thing never would time right. Cleaned up the plate from the rust bucket and it dropped right into place! Timed it on the bench this time and the engine is back in all freshened up and resealed. Can't wait to hear it run! ZOOM! lol AND, if this new one is any good at all ... I'll fix her up too! Old lady said it was running 3 years ago when she parked it in the back yard after her husband became handicapped, and there it's been since. She was very apologetic that one tire went flat! lol... if she only knew ........ |

my father in laws 67 has a gas gauge, and the 69 i just got rid off has a gas gauge, but both have the metal tanks. my father in law has a 81 i think with the plastic tank and all he has is the key and the choke. and a flat tire and a bad battery, and wants to sell it for 1000! its still sitting in his barn 2 years later.

Re: Need to Identify Utility Body Harley Cart - Early 70's
Unless your market is WAY different ... he's gonna have it awhile longer at $1000, but people have the good running carts up for a LOT of money. Only takes one person who wants it that bad.
I have about $600 in mine at this point ... with new wheels and tires, engine parts, an electric fuel pump, brand new carb, new rear shock, the new floor pans, the lights, belts, and misc bits. I'm picking up the utility cart today for $100 .... so I'm not out much if I end up using it for parts, but it doesn't look too bad. Fingers crossed! Maybe I'll get lucky and fresh gas will make her run! I'm never that lucky ... lol |
