Help starting cart
Just rebuilt my 73 cart and it starts only if the rear tires are off the ground. If the tires are down the cart lurches forward while trying to start but doesnt turn over fast enough to fire. Battery is charged. Clutch was rebuilt with new seals. Any ideas?

Re: Help starting cart
check secondary clutch. is belt wore and dropping down into clutch to deep.
if bushing in secondary is wore out it will also do this. If you just rebuilt your primary you will get drag off the felt seal untill it gets oil soaked. |

Re: Help starting cart
The belt is pretty tight in the clutch and definatly engaging with the clutch. I can't turn the motor by hand without the belt engaging the clutch and drive wheels.

Re: Help starting cart
Any more ideas why the belt would be dragging on the clutch. Could i have tightened the shaft nut too much? I put in 80/85W transmission oil. Please help this is so frustrating

Re: Help starting cart
dry felt seal is not letting clutch open.
I had one like this were I had to use a pry bar between the flanges to pop the floater open . it took a few times. finally started to open and close on its own. |

Re: Help starting cart
You have to get the belt off the drive""primary"" clutch, is it a new belt? Perhaps too wide or to short?
OOPS Craigs too. |

Re: Help starting cart
Gonna try and pry the flanges open. Width between the drive flange and clutch is only around 1/2" to 5/8" and my belt is slightly wider than 1" so that should be a problem

Re: Help starting cart
Flanges will not budge open anymore than they already are. Should the belt sit directly on the shaft? I can push the clutch in towards the drive flange and it springs back out and stops. Maybe it is too wide of a belt? Thanks for the help. Sorry to keep buggin
