Default repower

I have an "extra" frame and rear end from the parts cart I bought to fix up my 76 three wheel. I was going to make a trailer out of it, but I came across an old roached out ford lawn tractor with a good Kohler K series motor in it. I think it is a K-231 10hp, but I will have to look to be sure. It is a side shaft, so I got to thinking. I am considering putting this motor to use by using it to power the parts cart and get it back on the road. Would a comet clutch set up be an adequate clutch for this app? I am going to try to go a different route than the Harley clutch since the parts are so hard to come by, but I could still use the factory disc brake. The motor is a little taller, but I figure I could easily build a cradle that could bolt into the factory motor mount holes and drop it a few inches for clearance. This old motor runs great and rebuilds easily, it also sounds mean with a straight pipe. I know I would be giving up reverse, but I could live with that. Has anyone seen or done such a swap? I think similar motors were used on Cushman gas carts? Any input on this would be cool. Project is in planning stages, and will probably be slow going done in spare time, but I think it would be pretty cool.

Sounds like a good project! All types of clutches are available but they are expensive. It may cost more than it's worth but it might be fun. See if you can find a gear box that might help.
