Default New Owner with questions

Hey everyone,

I just picked up a 67 gasser off of craiglist. The body is super rough but i was told the engine was in good shape but wouldn't run due to electrical issues. I figured most of the electrical issues and it runs forward well. It runs and idles backwards but will not rev and subsequently move. I have the manual but am not familiar with setting points (i grew up with FI). Do I need to set them both forward and backward. Any help would be great.

You have to set the timing in both forward and backwards. Can you give me more details on the problem? Does the engine turn over in reverse? Have you done a compression test? How does the plug work? What did you do to fix electrical issue?

The engine runs in reverse but will not go past idle. It runs and drives in forward. The electrics on this cart seem to be a combination of 67d and 68 d. I just put the correct wires to the positive side of the coil, attached the point wire to the negative and added a condenser then it fired almost right up.

you should have a condensor under the points plate. its on the front of the engine, behind the muffler. it has 3 screws. its attached to the points plate. its thats 3 inch plate in the middle f the air screen. if your not comfortable with points or the adj, look, but dont touch! the points will look like a contact on a spring attached to a 3 inch plate, and on the other side of the plate is the condesor. look at the contact base where the points touch the cam lobe, if its worn, replace it. look at the contact its self, if its green, or worn, replace them. i can give you chevy small block points number from a national, blue and yellow auto parts dealer, a new set of points and condensor run about 15 bucks.
but as i said, if you dont feel comtable, dont touch them till you get the manual from here. also therers a simplified version of it out there , if you want the manual, ro you can ask, we can advise! plus we like pictures!
