Default Will not take heavy throttle.

I have a HD 2-stroke cart. I dont usually work on carts but thought I would help a friend. It had issues pulling enough fuel to sustane WOT for more than 50 yards or so. It would run good off of a gravity fuel tank so I put in a carb kit and got this buggy back together.

It seems to start good and run very good under clutch engagement.

Once it warms up it will even take off under its own power if I slowly accelerate to WOT.

If I take off and give it throttle a little quicker it seems to fall flat on its face unless I hold the choke open breifly and shut it while accelerating.

To me its seems like it is getting air faster than it can supply under the load of acceleration. Once up to cruzing speed it is providing plenty of fuel.

Any Ideas?

I had the carb off again this weekend and noticed the throttle shaft was loose in its bore.

Could this also be the issue or are you set on the crank seals?

read your post again. if it was a crank seal it would be hard to start.
might be the carb.

Not a really good test but I got the engine running below clutch engagment last night and tried spraying carb cleaner around the PTO seal and didn't get a rise in RPM.

I have the tools to do a full engine leak test but I am thinking carb myself too.

The loose throttle shaft cant help at all, It was in the low 70s last night and the problem was way worse.

harleys have a pto shaft? hmm thats new...i know you meant to say you sprayed ether or starting fluid on the seal areas behind the engine fan, and between the flywheel and the blck to see if it sped up when spaying, but it diddnt rev up when you sprayed. i my self would worry about the loose shaft, but that would cause some erratic running issues. if that is in question, look at getting a new carb, unless graig has a used one he may donate to you, or you could give him a chairable donation for his product.

I like donations!!!!!!!!!!!!!
spraying around the seal is not always true. if you are going to try this make sure it is clean around the seal. a leaky seal will usually show by alot of build up behind the clutch from the leak soaking up dirt. A quick compression test wouldn't hurt. just pull the spark plug put your thumb over the hole and turn the motor over with the starter. Does it pop or puff? Pulling the exhaust off and looking at the piston is a good check. when rings go they go to the exhaust side. the piston will show it. turn the piston down and you'll see the inside of the jug. just things to check before you start spending.

Sorry I deal mostly with snowmobiles, the drive clutch side is the PTO side.
