Well, here is the beast! lol. Its a 1979 HD Gas Golf Cart. Since this photo, it is now 90% street leagle. The horn, tail light, turn signals, windshield, license plate holders ( with light ) and headlights are in and operating. I now need brake light switch and seat belts installed and THAT part will be good. NOW. on to the engine issues. It will start, run about 50 yards, then try to die. If I mess with the choke, it will sputter, take off ( at times with surprising power) then die. Once dead, its DONE for till next day. The other issues Im seeing are what I might call " oil blow by" at the top end ( and leaving residue on engine and seat cowling) and at the bottom by what I believe to be the primary clutch spring ( attacked to engine side of belt). NOTE: the cart sat for years with a half of a tank of fuel in the tank. I dumped and cleaned the tank and it was NASTY. I replaced in line fuel filters and mixed fresh fuel ( with 1.5oz oil to every gallon of fuel) in hopes that would help. I guess it did actually as far as the smoke and a lil more power. Im trying to make this thing go. It has been a big project for my uncle and I and have had a whole lot of fun with it. |

Re: uh boy. here we go again. lol
dont think its a compression issues. i think the carb may be boogered up, need a good cleaning and or rebuilt. check timing of course and points while your there.
yes i see where mr squid say to check the compression if your getting blow by under the seat and below the jug. head gasket , or jug gasket. if it head gasket, take the 4 bolts off the head pull the head and pull it off and tighten the bolts back down and see what it does. base gasket not that easy, but it still would be allowing ol to leak where the jug and the block meet. easy to see, pulll the air sheild from the jug, only has a machine screw with nut to squeeze to the jug, and might have to pull the engine bracket from the head to slide it off. ii had a 69 run only with the choke on, and had to feather the choke to keep it running. but it did run, but like complete crap. i found it too have a plugged muffler. running it stright pipe and runns like a raped ape! |
