Starts great no power after rebuild
Hello all my golf cart friends. Just finished my first bottom-end rebuild on my 1969 HD (1976 Engine) and it kinda runs. Most of the time when I rebuild an engine it blows up and my wife tells me to get a new hobby. The compression is 90/95psi, did my best with the end play. I set the point gap (.022) and did my best with the timing and I think it is close. My problem is NO Power. The carts starts up after you pull the choke, runs great at low speed BUT will not rev-up. When you push the gas peddle to the floor the engine stalls and you have to pull the choke and the cart starts back up. The YouTube Video should help. When I push the gas peddle to the floor you can hear the engine die. As always thanks for your help.

Re: Starts great no power after rebuild
sounds like you did a good job but thr timing should be very close. It sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem. I would check the fuel pump carb. set up and assembly. You also could have a air leak in the fuel line.

Re: Starts great no power after rebuild
pull your spark plug after it dies and see if it's wet/dry

Re: Starts great no power after rebuild
The plug was dry and a nice brown color. When I put the carb back on the intake manifold I used a new gasket. The carb has a small hole and the intake manifold has a small hole. I did make sure NOT to cover the holes with the new gasket. Is that correct? Thanks as always

Re: Starts great no power after rebuild
Played around with the cart this weekend. I replaced the fuel line with clear fuel line and a new fuel filter. Cart started, then when the carb got about half way open the the engine died and would not start back up. Pulled the plug and it was very wet. Checked the spark and it was good. No bubles in the fuel line and no leaks. Should I order a carb rebuild kit? Any other ideas on what I might want to check? Thanks as always!

Re: Starts great no power after rebuild
you sure your vacuum holes are open in the reed plate.
if so it may be time for a carb kit. also might want to check the fuel pick up in the tank. |

Re: Starts great no power after rebuild
You may be losing spark or too much fuel!
