Default Newbie Carb Question (75 HD)

I am wondering if someone could shed some light on the differences between carbs for the HD carts. My wife bought me a 75 model D HD 3 wheel cart and I am going to start going through it as it backfires when running. I have found several articles on here that will help me a ton but as I was doing som e research I found that the previous owner put a newer carb on the cart it appears to be for a 96-2004 columbia cart.

Should I replace the carb and go back to the original or will the newer carb work?

Thanks for the help

It looks like after closer inspection that it is a newer carb for G2 2 cyl. not what I listed above.

I tried to get pictures but they are not turning out very well since it is still in the cart.

The carb probably work if it is jetted properly. Is it back firing out the mufflwe or back through the carb. See if you can get the brand and model of the carb.

It is backifiring and it won't run. I am sure the points need to be adjusted as well. My wife purchased it last week so I am just getting into it. I plan to take off the carb and clean it up at least. I am little confused as to how the air filter can is suppose to hook up to the true carb for this cart. I looked at the parts breakdown but I can't seem to put it together in my head. Are there any pictures of the carb connecting to the air filter?

I will see if I can get some pictures tonight. Thanks for the response.

You might change the condenser too. That can cause the problem. The pictures will help.

Let's see if this works. I am going to start by cleaning the carb since it has been sitting. I plan to also change the points and the condenser. This is going to be my first rebuild. I have a G2 waiting in the wings for the next project.

Looks like the carb is a walbro carb LMB 238 or 230 I can't make out the number real well.

I would like to move back to the stock TL carb but I can't seem to figure out how the air filter hose attaches to the carb. I am going have to get the hose as well but I am not sure how they are connected.

Any ideas? I have the parts breakdown and the service manual but I can't tell how it connects.

Any help would be great.

I forgot to mention that one of the jets broke as I was taking it apart to clean it so either way I need to replace the carb.

Wow what the hell is that :) I would replace the carb with an original. Just find a good used one and rebuild it. Vintage sells a rebuild kit for 19 bucks and it is simple to do.

I would like to go back to the original but I am not sure about the connection between the carb and the hose from the air filter. I am a visual guy so if anybody has a picture that would be great. I have the service manual but the black and white (mostly black) doesn't Give much info.

Thanks for the reply!
