How to paint one?
What is the easiest and nicest looking way to paint on by yourself and not have a lot of money involved in it?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Re: How to paint one?
It is a 1976 HD golf cart, fiberglass body and in really nice shape as far as the fiberglass is no splits or cracks in it. It is the original cream color right now but would like to possibly paint it orange and black??? Not sure on the color just a thought but I dont want it to look like I painted it with a brush, I would like it to look nice.

You can paint with rattle can, which can be color matched, and purchased at your local automotive store. If your decent at painting at all it should turn out great. I would recommend using alcohol or acetone to clean it up, then spray on adhesion promoter. It will help the fiberglass accept the paint. Tape off what you don't want painted. Spray on multiple coats. And your golden!
Hope that helps Doug Sent from my DROID SPYDER using Tapatalk 2 |

Re: How to paint one?
I just finished restoring my '75D. I used Rust-oleum and rolled it on. So much cheaper than spray can! Two quarts at $8.59 each and a can of mineral spirits.
I saw this technique online and they used it on cars. They called it "the $50.00 paint job". I did five coats. Turned out better than expected! I'll post some photos |

Re: How to paint one?
Here are a few photos of the completed cart. Again, Sand fiberglass(300), 3 coats rustoleum rolled, sand (800), 2 more coats, sand(1000), 2 Effex clear spray coats and 2 coats automotive clear, sand 1500 - polishing compound & buff. Then two coats of car wax.
Two of the close up photos show the Effex clear. This is only visible in direct sunlight! Recovered the seats with Marine grade vinyl and new carpet. New Sunbrella bimini top. |
