Default Just bought and it doesn't run quite the best

I just bought a 1970 HD 3 wheel cart. I bought it and the guy told me that it keeps burning up the points. When driving it it doesn't move very fast and it kind of not running right it seems. The guy told me that it may stop burning up the points if it had the correct solenoid. He told me that it had a solenoid off of an older dodge truck. Something about it needs a continuous solenoid where this on that's on it is not continuous. I don't have the slightest clue what could be wrong with it. Anything from you guys would help.

Disclaimer: I know VERY little about any of this, however I to am in the process of restoring an old turd myself. I would recommend starting as fresh as you can. You can buy pretty much everything for that cart brand new from vintagegolfcartparts.com or eBay. If I were you, I would go ahead and buy a new solenoid, coil, wire, circuit breaker, plug, points and condensor and possible a new AC Voltage regulator. All thiose parts can be had for cheap, and that way you know what you are working with. Good luck

Ok. I just bought a tune up kit for it. With that I got an air filter, fuel filter, points and condenser, spark plug, and a new solenoid.

The condenser will be the key to burnt points.

Default Re: right plug?

The high compression engine came out in 1971 and used a different spark plug than the earlier carts. I would make sure you are using the correct spark plug. Most of the tune-up kits I see are for 1971-81 year models.
