Default Automatic Transmission Fluid in clutch

Had some work done this week on my cart and while it was in the shop I told them to go ahead a replace the O ring in the clutch. When I picked it up I was told that they ( the shop ) refill the clutch with automatic transmission fluid.Has anyone else ever heard of this and will it work?

My question is what is recommended?
ATF has no friction properties according to what I have been told.

Should I drain the ATF out and then put 80/90 gear lube in?

It's main trait is it's resistance to compression (hydraulic) but is does have SOME lubricating qualities. It BELONGS in automotive transmissions.
