Default multiple problems with my 1975 hd

After doing alot of work to the harley 3-wheeler. Piston, rings, jug, new carb, fuel lines, spark plug, cluth cover gasket, and muffler, it seemed to be running pretty good until the other day it started smoking real bad and lost power, it would hardley move. Then sitting in my garage the clutch oil leaked out of the ckutch. I pulled the gas tank and drained the gas and added fresh gas, checked the compression it was still a 85 to 90psi. if anybody has any answers it would be greatly appreciated.

You have a couple of problems. One is the clutch "O" ring is leaking. Two is the carb is probably causing a very rich mixture. See why the clutch is leaking and fix the carb and all will work out!

You may want to consider changing the condenser. Mine always stopped smoking after changing the condenser.

Well to add to my list of things new to the harley, points, condensor, coil, spark plug and checked the carb. It still is smoking alot and lacks power i am thinking i may have to break down and bring it to a real mechanic i have way more in to it then its worth but i just have to get it running the way its suppose to. Thanks again for any advice anyone can give me.

How much oil are you using per gallon of gas? A 2 cycle engine will smoke some depending on what type and how much oil you are using in the mixture. Don't give up or you will always take it to someone else to repair! Explain the low power. I have seen some carts that the foot gas pedal is not allowing the carb. to open fully.

If you just installed piston and rings and your down to 85 lbs I'm guessing you've lost a ring. pull your exhaust off and take a look. feel for grooves in the jug.

As I mentioned earlier it was running fine and when I was driving it, it lost power and started smoking alot. I know there is alot of debate on the forum on how much compression a cart should have and mine was running fine on 85 to 90 psi. Im starting to think that there may be something going on in the lower part of the motor there is a small amount of oil around the clutch shaft seal. I have checked the gas pedal cable and it is properly working. If I do need to rebuild the lower end of the motor is it hard to do. thank you all for your comments.

Your last post asked if the rebuild is difficult.
It's pretty well spelled out in the manual so here is the link again.

Good luck.

Still sounds like the carburetor running too rich or flooding.

I have to agree with tew. My cart smoked and ran rough when I put in 50/50. You may want to double check your gas/oil mix ratio.
