Default Could use some sage advice - re: clutch

The wife told me the lawn limo was making a racket when she went for a drive last night. Popped the hood today and found that the plate/cover/shroud on the front of the clutch (at least I think this is a clutch!) had a chunk that was bent over 180 degrees. I had to cut the piece off to keep the belt from shredding. A couple photos to get an idea what I got here...

I have no idea how it happened. If the wife ran something over, she's not fessing up!

So, how serious of a problem do I have here? The cover has a crack that runs to the center opening and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the whole thing comes off.

Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Time for a new clutch.
You can't blame the wife for this one. You can see the damage to the clutch in the video that you previously posted.
Something really scraped up the clutch in two places.

Superb detective work, Marathon! It never would have occurred to me to check that video.

I still might go ahead and causally infer that it was the wifes crazy nighttime ramblings that "probably" caused it, if there's any chance that I may get some extra sugar out of the deal!

So, a new clutch.... any suggestions on running down a replacement? Are they readily available? Am I going to have to pimp out the wife to be able to afford it? (talk about doling out some extra sugar! )

Thanks again for the heads up. Much appreciated.

You should check out the 'for-sale' section and see what turns up.

Jeeeez.... there was a time when that thought would have occurred to me on it's own... probably.

My adoring wife (aka: "Clutch Killer") would probably be disappointed to know how gently you handled my lack of intelligent thought. She likes to make the most of the (abundant) opportunities. Like maybe I'll "learn" to think..... Bless her heart.

Thanks again for your help.

You are at least going to need a new sliding flange and belt. It looks like something has been hitting that clutch for a while!

No, not yet. Spent the last few weekends replacing the top on my other golf cart. (a Mazda Miata)

I've done a little internet hunting but quickly realized I'm going to need a service and parts manual so I can get a better understanding of the clutch. I can't fix this thing if I can't even name or identify what the parts are I might need. Ordered a CD version this past week.

LMAO.....

Thanks Tew. You could have kept that info under your hat so that I would have felt like my 8 bucks was well spent. Well, if that's the only money I throw away before I get this clutch fixed I will be doing well.

Now I just need to find a little free time to devote to the project.....
