Locked???
To start, thanks everyone for all your help. I am now stuck. '68 harley 3 wheeler Cart was running great after replacing battery, spark plug, fuel filter, new points and condesor. Body was sanded and ready for painting the next day.... Wife wanted to go for a quick ride. Starts like a champ.... Stop for 15 minutes talking to neighbor.... Proceed up the road and complety locks up.....
I hear the starter trying, but no rotation. engine is seized to the point it cant turn.... Before this happened i used to rotate the transmission drive with one hand to set my points. After the seize, i need to use a lot of force with two hands to move transmission drive.... It is amost like i can maybe turn it 90 persent, but not a full rotation at some point... When i removed the head unit, the piston looked okay and i was able to turn engine and piston so that i could remove the thing the piston moves up and down in .... After reading ahead in the manual, cracking the case and repairing the crank seems waaay beyond me and my tools.... Any ideas?? Like i said it is not 100% seized because i can move it, just takes a lot of force and too much resistance for cart to rotate itself. |

Re: Locked???
I am in Cincinnati. Shipping it somewhere would not be worth it. Thanks though. Just wish i knew what needed to be done. If i was confident what needed to be done, i would find a way to get it done.

Re: Locked???
If you have the cylinder ((the thing the piston goes up and down in)) removed
and the crankshaft is still hard to turn you most likely need a full rebuild. You say your skills are limited but with a good shop maual you can do it. |

Re: Locked???
Does the crankshaft spin freely now with the cylinder removed ?
DO NOT try to spin it over without holding the piston "centered" so the piston skirt does not contact the crankcase . Just hold the piston by hand or with a rag and slowly turn the crankshaft. |

Re: Locked???
Not freely, same as when cylinder was on.
