Generally the base plate breaks. There is one that expired on ebay and it was priced at $39. Type in Harley golf. Awhile back a friend of mine had to use JB weld to fix his as one was not to be found.

Re: 1976 gas harley davidson f/r switch
Someone was going to send me a broken switch to see if I could machine a replacement but he had to J B Weld his back because he could not find a replacement. A lot of folks up grade to the two solenoid system like the Yamaha G1.

How much do the parts for the 'G1' conversion cost? Got a link to specific part numbers or a how to guide?

mine is broken I wired it together to run forward just no reverse. cant find another switch anywere I am interested in the Yamaha solenoid how many do you need and are they hard to hook up. I wondered if you could use a twelve volt battery switch just to change from reverse to forward any thoughts.

Re: 1976 gas harley davidson f/r switch
I changed my 1980 model D over a few months ago .Ordered 2 5 pole continuous duty solenoids off of EBay and used a schematic somebody posted a while back.I put a push / pull switch and mounted it under my key switch, now I just push it in for forward and pull it out for reverse.it has worked great so far and I thank Tew for giving me the idea.I'll post some pics tomorrow if you want to see what I did .I was happy with the outcome and I think I spent less than 100 dollars
