Looking for Plastic Gas Tank for 76 Model D
Does anyone have a plastic gas tank for a Harley 76 D that they are looking to sell? This is the last piece I need to finish my project cart, and I'm having a hard time locating an original one.
Thanks, Jonathan |

Used they seem to go for around $100 if you can find em. Seems like I saw someone on ebay had some new ones recently, seems like they were at least $200.

Re: Looking for Plastic Gas Tank for 76 Model D
I tried looking in the phone book for a lawn and garden repair shop that 2 or 3 that they were parting out in the back but I can't find the place in the phone book. They may have moved. I believe one of the carts was pre-75 and had the steel 5 gal. tank. If I go by the place (its 10 miles from my house), I will stop and see what they have.

Re: Looking for Plastic Gas Tank for 76 Model D
Appreciate the help.
I found a few older posts with people selling, but they all seem to be gone. I'm trying my luck with a few carts for sale on craigslist to see if people are willing to part them out. As a last resort I know I can modify a generic tank to work, but I really want to be able to fill it up using the fuel filler door that's already built in. |

You could also look at marine tanks both portable and built in ones. You may be able to find something close enough.

Thanks 73eldo, good suggestion. Looks like some of the smaller (3 gallon) marine tanks will fit. I'm still hunting for a stock HD tank but that's a good back-up plan if I can't find anything.

Re: Looking for Plastic Gas Tank for 76 Model D
Once they went from the metal tank to the plastic one I think they stayed the same for a long time. At some point there was a slight change where instead of straps to hold it in there were 'ears' on the sides of the tank that I assume mounted to the frame or a bracket on the frame. Guessing that was 86 at the earliest, maybe a 90's change?
