Default Muffler

Replaced the muffler on my cart during the re-gen. program I put it through, over the winter, seems OK. Is there a better muffler assembly out there that is a bit more quieter? I purchased one I have installed through Big Sky, Part # 65247-79A

With a 2 stroke the muffler is almost an integral part of the way the engine works. Its almost like tweaking the cam on a 4 stroke. Think of the old school racing dirt bikes with the really odd mufflers. Its a combination of expansion area and back pressure that sort of sets how much flow there is through the engine since there is no valves. It kinda times the flow.

Sure 73eldo, that I know, I have been searching the past posts, because I'm sure I seen one in regards to a quieter muffler. I also started checking that other forum, I'm thinking I seen it there. I'll let you know , I just remember the poster stating that it was, an premium muffler, cost a bit extra he side, but really quieted his cart. will I'll continue checking.

Can't do anything about the muffler BUT in 2014 we have awesome sound proofing materials. Just google, your cart will be much quitter, lighter and safer. Just a thought

Kinda related but not really. Just got done dissecting my muffler today and posted pics and details if you're curious what's in there:

Hope that works!

GC That is GOOD stuff did you notice any difference in how it run once it was all back together? I am a steel fabricator by trade, you may have just gave a another winter project LOL
On the same muffler topic I have noticed that the outlet is pointing staight down to the ground. When on a dirt road that is blowing right down into the dirt causing alot of dust. I am thinking of adding a 45 or 90 to the outlet to cut down on blowing the dust. Any thoughts guys??

I've thought about a 90 on the end too. Haven't got it back together yet, just clean and prep today.

I wonder if having it pointing to the ground is safer if it backfires? I broke a window a couple years ago with a backfire. Was running on gravel and it somehow shot a rock about 15' and hit a window so there is some power there. Don't know if that would be better or worse not pointing down.

Maybe have it fan out so you could keep your parking spot clear vs just that narrow strip?
