Default How does it start?

I am very new to the world of gas golf carts and have a probably very simple question bugging the crap out of me.
How do they crank? Just pressing the gas pedal and the engine is running with no starter kicking in or anything like that. It has to be simple but I am missing something. Does it start rolling with electric power and then the engine starts from that motion?
Help a poor ignorant fellow out please.
Thanks.

When you press the gas pedal a starter/generator starts turning and starts the engine. The starter/generator then converts to a generator to charge the battery while the engine is running.

So I have a question, when my 89-91 model par car was still together and I was trying to get the motor running all I had to do was turn the key to fwd and the generator started turning. Is this correct? How would you make it to when you turned the key on nothing happened and when you press on the gas she comes to life?

The starter should work after the key is turned on and the gas pedal is pressed. Not when the key is turned on.

There could be 2 things making this happen. The micro switch that is "actuated" when you press the accelerator pedal may be stuck, so when you turn the key, power is going to the starter/generator. You may also have a stuck solenoid, same symptoms. You could use a volt meter for "volt" readings or in "continuity" test the micro switch and the solenoid. Good luck Dave

Dodgefather, I had asimilar thing with my cart. A couple of times I found it parked weird when I came back to it after jumping off to do a small chore. I had to use some rustbuster on the linkage, it was sticking and would just bump itself and move a little. I was lucky it didn't end up in the lake. The rustbuster cured it, but I now turn the key off every time I get off.
