Default G16 clutch problem?

I picked up a 2000 Gas G16 last weekend that has been used offroad quite a bit. It had mud everywhere so I know it's been driven hard.

The problem is that it doesn't have any torque. When I press the gas pedal, it takes off like trying to accelerate from a stop sign in second gear with a Honda civic. It also seems to shake while starting to accelerate. I have very hilly property and I would like this cart to be geared for climbing hills and driving through the woods. It would be great if I could also keep the top speed it has now.

It goes faster than I would expect a golf cart to go as well. It goes much faster than my electric Club Car. I'm guessing 20 mph. IDK if someone has modified something or what.

I've been trying to read about how to cure this problem, but I haven't found much info on a G16. Not sure if I need new clutch springs or a belt or what. If someone would be so kind as to post their thoughts and a link to a good company to buy parts from I would appreciate it.

Look at the pulley on the crank shaft and see if it is closed. (two halves close together) If they are, remove the dust cover from the clutch and see if the swinging weights are stuck on the rollers. Mine had destroyed one roller and the weight would flip up past the roller engaging the clutch. Hope that makes sense and helps you out...Jim

I am going to have Plowmans rebuild mine when I get it off. Seems to be the consensus. Look him up in the "site sponsor" section...Jim
