Opinions from the Yamaha vets here
I'm looking for some opinions from some of the Yamaha guys that have been around a while. I have a 2002 G16A. I drilled the gov. arm out and the thing ran real fast..... I liked it but was afraid I would over rev the engine. I ordered and installed a new arm.
The question, I run mainly on paved surface with 12" wheels with low pro tires, is there any real danger of over reving the engine with the drilled arm mod? Thanks again, |

Re: Opinions from the Yamaha vets here
Every Yamaha I've ever owned if completely bypassed the governor. I had a 99 G16 that I ran the absolute crap out of and never had a problem. But I am a fanatic when it comes to changing the oil. I also used Mobil 1 10w30 syn. Just be mindful of your rpm's and don't float the valves for long periods of time: wind it out til it want go no more. Yamaha makes some tough little engines. Do your regular maintenance on a more than regular basis: oil changes, grease clutches, etc... I can't say you want blow your engine. I can just tell you what I've experienced.

I bypassed the governor on my G9 when I had the stock engine, no problems. I also ran Mobil 1 syn.

Re: Opinions from the Yamaha vets here
Thanks guys. One more, do I need to mix regular oil with the Syn for the first couple of changes, or just switch to the syn 100%?

I wouldn't mix it. It probably wouldn't hurt anything but I don't mix oils.
