G1 no reverse

82 G1. Starter kicks in and I have spark but not getting the motor to fire in reverse. Runs fine in forward but I got no-go backwards. I am guessing since I have spark and the motor turning the solenoids are good so what am I missing? Thanks in advance

Its been a while I fixed one for a friend a while back. I think their are two solonoids on the passenger side under the fender. They let the starter turn forward or reverse. I would make sure the right one which I dont remember which is which gets proper voltage when the selector switch is in forward or reverse.

The motor is being turned in reverse by the starter, it has spark, its just not running.

When I got mine the guy couldn't get it to run. Turned out the motor was turning in reverse but the ignition was firing on the forward set of points. Swapped the blue and brown wires (hope those were the colors) on the starter solenoids and it started right up. So Make sure the engine is turning forward when the key is turned to the forward position.

Key in forward, it starts and runs fine. Key in reverse position, starter turns in reverse and the motor spins with the starter and I have spark but the motor will not engage and run.

Put a timing light on it and make sure that the ignition is firing at the right time.

is there a separate adjustment for reverse? driving forward is no problem at all. fires and runs great.

It's been quite a while since I pulled the gas engine and put the diesel in mine but I think there is a set of points for each direction that can be adjusted. I was hoping that someone with more recent experience would add to this.

No points i can recall on G1, just a single magnetic pickup.
