Yamaha g16 exhaust noise

Does the muffler or something else cause the engine noise more. Sounds super loud when driving. Others are quieter. Any help or ideas?

Could be bad exhaust gasket, loose nuts on exhaust flange, (holding muffler to the head on the engine). Or a hole in the muffler itself.

Or, could be an opening in the intake tract. That could also cause an increase in noise levels.

Bad rollers in the Primary(Drive)Clutch will give an awful sound too.My Wifes' G16 had a terrible rattle for a long time,and the rollers were shot,now its' super-quiet.Like others said,check the exhaust gasket,or maybe the muffler is damaged from something hitting it?

My Fave, trans input shaft bearing roaring as apeed increases. Remove belt & run it a little. Warning: no governor function with drive belt removed, it can easily over-rev.

My G29 had a noise in the engine that about drove me crazy. The cart was very noisy to drive and kept trying to identify the source by checking different things. I looked extensively at the exhaust, starter/alternator, clutches and it came down to the engine. I ended up replacing the engine with a rebuilt one and all has been quiet since.

I hope your noise issue is something much more simple and inexpensive.

no its not a rattle or anything is like just loud compared to other Yamaha cart motors I hear run down the road even some club car are quieter. So I should check the muffler gasket and bolts? someone mentioned intake? it runs great but just loud . I know when on street it will be louder than on grass but just hate seeing some very quiet and easy to enjoy the ride.

My muffler was loose where it mounted to the head when I got the cart. That ended up breaking down the gasket as well. The gasket is easily available, and quick to change. I think the loosening of the fasteners is due to the expansion and contraction of the head as it heats and cools.

When we first got our 2011 cart it also seemed to be louder than I expected and we also could smell more exhaust fumes than usual. When I removed the muffler for the first time I could see where there was blow by coming out of the bottom of the exhaust gasket. The gasket wasn’t bad it was because the way the muffler is mounted. There are the two bolts that connect it to the head but there is also a support bolt and bracket at the bottom that connects it to the swing arm. This support bracket is adjustable, the two exhaust bolts need to be torque first then tighten the support bolt at the bottom, to allow the muffler to seat properly. Good Luck.

The idea of noise is also somewhat a matter of perspective. My cart seems especially noisy when I'm driving it. But when I'm outside and someone else drives it, it doesn't seem that loud. Also, my intake noise increased when I did Plowman's airbox mods, and that contributes to the overall noise picture. It seems that exhaust is the least of the noise. Most of mine is either intake or mechanical in nature.
