Default G14 - Side Panel Metal Rivet Removal

How do I remove this rivet to remove the side panels? I've done everything but try to drill it out. I need to remove them to sand and repaint them (as they took the brunt of a flip-over on concrete).

(It won't let me post a link for 7 days, so I can't post an image of the item in question)

Thanks in advance,
Berms

If it's just an aluminum rivet, you have to drill them out. Get a drill bit that is a little smaller than the outer diameter of the rivet. Drill slow so you don't drill into the base metal. The rivet cap will come off, use a punch to drive the center out.

Thanks, I went ahead and drilled them out. I'll just put a regular bolt and nut in there when I'm done.

I agree. They are cheap and easy as long as you have the gun. That's a purchase you will be glad you made. Rivets are lower profile and are very fast to assemble. They also very snug.

I have a good gun and the rivets. But I forget all about it sometimes. Of course, I weld a lot of my metal work so wouldn't use them anyway.

But if rivets are what you remove then that's what I'd go back with.

But in consideration of future maintenance, I'm not sure I want to re-rivet these. After all, I dont want to continue to drill them out every 2 years when I want to maintain/upgrade/replace parts. Or, maybe I'm making a bigger deal out of it than is necessary.

Rivets work great, Harbor Freight gun???? for me not so much. Went with Northern tools and greatly satisfied. BEST INVESTMENT as we are just finishing Cart #3, with 3 more (so far ) to go..
Good Luck
