Default G1 Windshield

Since it appears to be virtually impossible to purchase a windshield for a G1 I have been looking locally via Craigslist for a good piece of plexiglass so that I could build my own. I finally located a 1/2" piece that looks like it'll work just fine ..... sizewise. Like the pre-built ones I wanted to insert a hinge. I am looking for the PVC H hinge but it doesn't seem to come in the 1/2" size. I WAS going to be able to build my own for under $65.00 but that seems out the window for now. Does anyone have a lead on a PVC H hinge that will accommodate 1/2" plexiglass or a lead on an inexpensive pre built windshield.

I can't really answer your question, and I haven't tried these windshields, but I have seen them on other G1s, and they appear to work very well:

As near as I can tell a windshield there is $129.00. I'm either looking for ideas to build my own or something prebuilt for about half of what that dealer is looking for. I'm not insinuating they are expensive, just more expensive than I'm wiling to pay.

Gotcha. That's why I haven't tried one.

Here is a pic of my G1. I used a Club Car windshield and roof. Rear supports are Yamaha long-roof supports, drilled and mounted upsidedown. Clubcar mounting actually lined up well with frame arms under front cowl.

Edit: I bought whole setup used locally. $200 for roof, windshield, frame, and supports.

Thats not too shabby! I will suggest that idea for future inquiries on G1 windshields. What provisions did you add to allow you to flip rear body up?

Thanks!

I used bolts with wing nuts at the rear support. Windshield frame will support roof while body is up. It is kinda a pain, but works. Only lift body once in a while, so its OK.

I'm close to a place sells Plexiglass and Lexan. I can get a piece big enough for a windshield for $40. I plan to figure where I want it to fold and have them cut it and then I'll install a Stainless steel piano hinge to make the fold. Should work great and be cheap enough.

Don't always want a windshield but would be nice to have one when it's cold out to keep the cold wind off.

ewblavis .... I already have a roof and front frame so my guess is that I really need to build my own. I believe my roof frame was a home made creation. It was there when I bought it.

smokindawg ... The only place i have looked is at Lowes and they are a bit pricey. We do have some local glass shops so maybe I'll try them.

Good deal. Thought it may help.

If plexiglass, etc. pushes $200, you may want to shop around and consider scrapping the existing frame. I had $200 in everything (used).
