Stuck intake valve.....

Just got a 1997 g16a.. Long story short it's been sitting a long time.. Tuned it up went to start it... Nothing... Started reading forums, don't have a compression tester. I pulled the valve cover... Found the intake valve rod chilling and the intake valve stuck shut... Figured soak it down with blaster, it got stuck open rod fell of again( only for a second closed right away). Now after letting it sit and soak it's unstuck compressed it put the rod back (it's not bent) think it's going to be ok? Lol it was a free cart has lift and over sized tires.. Thinking motor is tired and toast.. My battery is shot getting new one in morning just wonder if anyone else had luck with theirs.

Yes, this can happen. Usually the cause is no oil reaching the top rocker galley. Possable cause might be crud stuck in vacuum port in crank case. The fix is to blow air through the oil tube to dislodge whatever is plugging the port. But, you need to remove oil fill cap and hold rag over the opening, while you blow compressed air through oil line. Oil will try to come out of oil fill opening as you do this, so if don't want an "oil shower" keep the rag over to fill hole to catch escaping oil!!

And, make sure oil is reaching the rocker galley after doing this procedure!! Also change oil after doing this to drain out what ever was lodged in there!!

Jumpped it ran shortly tho think fuel pump is bad.. Pick don't do lift and tires justice.. They are 22-11-8 pretty meat and its a good 3-4" taller than my fathers electric yamaha. Body is rough but I have some left over filling paste I'll try to patch it up and paint it white again.

I would remove fuel tank, wash it out with tide and water, take fuel pump apart and clean it out as well. But take a black marker, and draw a line down the side, so you know how it goes back together. Then now is a good time to put new fuel line and vacuum line on!! Might have to clean out carb as well!!

You will be amazed at what these little things can do!!

I would have taken that for free any day! Also i have seen rotten fuel cause real nasty "gum" build up on intake valve, causing it to stick open. Unfortunately, in those situations i eventually had to pull the head and clean everything, as all cleaners i tried would not do a good enough job to keep the problem away. Fresh gas, and a good cleaning of the fuel system should be #1 on your list right now.

Where would I look to blow the air back in to crank oil isn't coming up to the valves. What oil would you recommend? What about rear end oil? Synthetics?

If you do decide to go synthetic, heres what i would suggest. It has the correct formulation for flat-tappet engines like ours, and i believe it to be a high quality product. But, first you need to be sure it has no oil leaks, as synthetic slips through leaks easier than dino oil. I just recently converted, and so far i am happy. The engine seems a little quieter too (but that could just be in my head).

Cart runs!!! Only with choke on tho... Carb is clean... How long should choke stay on?

Then it may be sucking to much air. Look for air filter housing leak. Or cracked plastic intake manfold (spacer between carb and head).

But make sure the oil supply line is feeding oil up into the rocker galley. If not, blow air back down through that oil supply line. Mine is that steel line going up the back of the motor and into the back of the valve cover. Don't know where yours is located.

Another thing, it will start running better, just driving it!!

Valves can stick due to sitting even. So I wouldn't sweat it as far as the valve. Briggs are bad about it.

How did you make sure the carb was clean? Sometimes I've had to take them apart and clean them a couple times to get them right. Had a 4 wheeler that took that before it ran like new.

Use spray carb cleaner and compressed air to blow out the passages and I use the tool for cleaning cutting torch tips too clean the jets. And make sure and install a fuel filter if there isn't one on the cart, change it if there is.
