Default 2005 gas Yamaha hesitates to start

My 2005 Yamaha hesitates to start. I press the gas to go but only the solenoid clicks; however, when I press the gas AND turn the clutch manually the golfcart runs. What is wrong with my golfcart???

Sounds like the starter/generator needs new brushes.

You may have dirty high current cable connections or your battery needs to be fully charged. I would start by checking all high current connections (especially at the battery) and battery health. - Ray

My 1990 G8 has always done that but maybe not as bad. I usually have to press the pedal down, let off and press it again, sometimes more than once to get it to start. I agree with Marathon. I think it's the brushes in the starter/generator. I haven't messed with it to know for sure because mine still starts when I drive it. One of these days I'll take it apart.
