G22 jakes long travel mod

Soooo.... I'm looking to go away from the spindle lift on my g22. Jakes really seems to be the only option out there with the long travel kit. But I do not like how it widens the front so much. Allsport doesn't widen it, but seems to be hard to find the allsport kit now??

Anyways anyone with the kit see any reason why I couldn't shorten the A arms in the jakes kit to get the width I want? Is there enought adjustments in the coils to make up the difference??

The fab work is no issue to me.

If the fab work is no issue and you are willing to cut down the A-arms on such an expensive kit, why not just build your own long travel kit from scratch. Besides, if you cut them shorter, then I wouldn't think you would have a long travel anymore.

Because they have already done the engineering of it. Buy the amount of time I would have in it figuring everything out and the price of steel right now, wouldn't be worth it.

The long travel end doesn't have anything to do with the width. It's the amount it can travel.

Move your finger up and down a certain amount of degrees. Move your arm up and down the same amount of degrees. You went from 2" to 2' of travel!!

Exactly,The distance from the Control-Arm Pivot-Point(mount) to the Spindle is the key.Yes,you can increase travel with shock length and mounting-angle too,but not as much as when the suspension is longer.You could use the stock Yamaha shock and get alot more travel if the control arms were longer by a few inches.Hope this helps.

All Sport is a cheap lift, and doesn't have the travel the Jake's LT has!! All Sport used to have quality and strength issues in the past. Don't know about now that Jake's makes them!!

I know I don't like the way the lower control arm is hung!!

If you shorten the a arms, the shocks may not fit. When you install most shocks, the suspension will be fully extended. A lot of times the shock just barely clears the mounts, can't speak for the Jakes LT kit though. But if that's the case, and you shorten the a arm, the shock may have to be compressed to fit it in the mounts. This risks the shock bottoming out during a full compression in a hard bump.

Also, if you shorten the a arms, you will have to shorten the tie rods as well.

And....the length of the a arms is directly related to the amount of travel you will get. And it will affect the ride and handling being more narrow. When you raise the cart, you want it to be wider for stability. Keeping it narrow will make it more likely to tip sideways in an off camber situation.

I would not advise cutting the a arms. This will create a weak spot in the a arms, no matter how you look at it. A full piece of steel is stronger than two pieces of steel welded together, especially when it is constantly under stress like in a suspension piece.
