need opinion on power;g16
am thinking on putting a hitch on my g16. was wondering about power, what i want to do is pull my 14ft. boat 9.9motor. to the launch and put it in,, i live in a gated community, and the pull to the launch is only a few blocks. the part i an concerned about is putting in and taking out, i wonder about power, as boats go this would be very light, i realize i need to make an extension for the hitch, i need to get it out the back about at least a foot. otherwise the back tires will go under water. i can weld a tube and in cert only when i need it. maybe i underestimate the g16,, anyway any opinions will be appreciated.. thanks also both rear and front clutches are in perfect condition;;

Umax spring, and a HD belt. Also, if clutch gets wet, you probably wont be coming back up that ramp. Heres the part number.

oh golly GE,, i don't like the part about not coming back from the ramp,, basically that was my main concern, so cg; you don't think the stock clutch and spring are strong enough.? it is not a very heavy boat..

Re: need opinion on power;g16
I dont like the way the stock spring works with big "lifted" tires. The UMAX spring is yamahas solution to add pulling power to their own line of lifted/large tire utility vehicles. I have installed several for customers, they love them. I install them on my own carts as soon as i get them, lifted or not. It would make your lifted cart drive better even when unloaded. In my opinion, its the best $15 and 45 minutes you can invest in your cart.

Re: need opinion on power;g16
99% of all OEM yamaha springs made before the 2007 "team clutch" release were black. So, the verdict is out on that one.

The UMAX spring is great, I had the white spring from CPP and did not like it for all around use, tried the umax and have good torque and good top end.

Re: need opinion on power;g16
The key here is...."if the clutches get wet"..... If I drive my cart, which has a big lift and big tires on it, in the SNOW.....the belts will slip. Just the little bit of fluffy white stuff flying around from driving is enough to make the cart useless. So when you are lowering your boat into the water, make sure to set the brake and don't put the cart in the water past the center of the rear tire. You can possibly go farther in, but if any water gets on the clutches you'll be asking someone to pull you out.
I agree about the stock springs, they are no good for utility use. I've never used the Umax spring, but I've heard lots of good info here about them. Some of the heavy springs in the aftermarket are WAY too stiff and can cause shifting problems, like they stay in low gear. Beware of that. I know the Plowman's red spring is good, I've used that one. |

Re: need opinion on power;g16
slon;;;;;;the water was my other concern,, i know on my car just how far to go in, when putting the boat in, i have measured the distance from the center of the back tires on my car to the ball on the trailer. i figure on mounting a square tube under the back seat, then make a slide in in cert to make the same distance, i think it will go out the back of the cart about2 foot. that should just touch the back tires at waters edge;;;;;;and Cary a wedge to put under the tires so it doesn't roll back,, see if this works i can sell the car i use just for putting the boat in.. i can practice in my front yard, it has about the same slope as the launch''' thanks all for the help.. if i do this i will show pictures when done'
