Default Help with G16 TCI replacement

I recently went through to replace the TCI on my g16. The replacement went smoothly, as near as I can tell, but I must have done something newby like.

I figured I set the clearance properly between the TCI and the fly wheel and pieced everything back together.

Now when I go to get rolling i have a chugging and no power problem...it just doesnt go go like it should. Did i just mis-gap the TCI / flywheel or is this a sign of a now more serious problem?

Any troubleshooting or steps you guys have would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Additional thinking, and not being at my cart, has me wondering if this is a coil issue and not TCI??

What did you set the gap to?

Was this cart ever running well?

I used a shipping label - very thin piece then put the screws tight down then took the shipping label out from between the flywheel and TCI.

The cart was not running well before which was the cause of replacing the TCI.

Kind of hate admiting this, but I use a match book cover to set the gap, just to hard to get 2 feeler gauges in there. Try unplugging the engine stop relay and try it.

Its ok man, i do the same thing. And [I][KingPin/I], the TCI is the coil. To the OP, if you have no spark, try unplugging the white plug at the front bottom of the motor (it is the plug that serves to "kill" the spark when the gas pedal is not pressed).

So i'm still having troubles. I took everything apart again to look at the TCI and all. I put back on the TCI, CARB, Air filter, checked the gas. I can say the only thing I haven't done is put in a new spark plug but this one still looks good.

What is happening now is the engine and everything engages but there is no power behind the go. It chugs along quite badly and even a little pebble in its way tends to stop it. I can sit on it and push down the gas peddle and its just .. putt putt putt putt...and reallllllllly slow.

Any ideas?

Does it start and rev up when in neutral? It sounds like it's moving on the starter alone...
