Loosen nut on secondary sheave without turning the whole clutch?
I'm trying to install a torque kit in my G2-a and I can't loosen the nut on the secondary sheave without the whole clutch turning. I saw the sticky about wedging a block of wood in it, but I tried that and it just pushes the wedge out of the way or spins against it. Does any one have a good way of holding the secondary sheave still while they loosen the nut? Thanks.

Putting the cart in gear and applying the emergency brake should help hold it in place.

Thanks. I think I had it in neutral, but the brake was set. I'll have to try again tomorrow!

I have had to put huge "channel lock pliers" on the spring seat sometimes (helps alot to have a friend to hold the pliers). Plus, that keeps the loads off the gears and things.

Re: Loosen nut on secondary sheave without turning the whole clutch?
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I really appreciate all of the ideas. I've had this cart for 15 years, and I used it with my late father in mostly the stock condition for hunting and fishing. In the last year, I've done a lot of maintenance, and upgrades to it, but this is proving to be the most challenging part. (lift kit, larger wheels, rejetted the carburetor, new headlights, front and rear brush guards, new brushes for the starter generator, new battery cables, new battery hold downs, new fuel and pulse lines, etc.) I have a buddy coming over to help who collects and restores old John Deere tractors. I think I'll be good now!

I put brakes on in gear. If that does not work I use a socket wrench and hit it with a mallet (easier to hit than a wrench) to pop it loose. It really should not be super tight, does not need to be. Consider replacing it if the locking part is trashed they can come loose.
