Default G1 w/ low compression, swap or rebuild?

I picked up a G1 (J10) today off craigslist and really wish I had run a compression test first. The previous owner claimed they were driving along and it just quit on the them. So I took a gamble that it could be easy fix...

The stater kicks over just fine, and it even sounds like it wants to start.

My compression was about 30, I'm assuming this means pistons rings? And/or seals? Crank? How hard is the rebuild?

Yes, I want more power if possible, I also want reverse (but would dump reverse for the right price). But it looks like hell and I don't really want to drop a ton into it.

Should I rebuild? $170+? Or swap, and if I swap, how had is it to fit the Enticer 250? Is there an easier motor? I'm in southern California and getting a Enticer motor is not so easy.

Thanks in advance for any help here. Sorry for the boat loads of questions.

Rebuilding would definitely be the cheapest and quickest route. Doing an engine conversion in the G1 is a pretty big commitment. I would buy the top end kit with the new cylinder.

Thanks for the info. I ended up picking up a EZGO TXT with a 16HP honda clone conversion... So it looks like I will just be rebuilding and selling. Unless I decide the use the G1 rear end on the EZGO

The G1 rear end won't do you any good with the clone. You'll lose reverse using that rear end.

I ended up rebuilding the top end with a new piston from ebay, took two attempts because after I opened it up, I realized the piston had the 5 stamped on. The ebay sell was nice enough to swap it out for an over sized piston from me..

Never rebuilt a 2-stoke before, but was actually very easy, prob only took about an hour of work and now it runs great. I was actually a little shocked when it fired right up. My GPS said 22mph after I broke it in over a few days.
