Putting a Harbor freight engine into a G14
Hello, I am 16 and I am a newbie to everything golf carts. I have a G14 that I recently bought, and the engine is toast. I see everyone putting these $700-$1000 dollar Honda engines into their golf carts. I just want my golf cart to run and then still have some money to do other things to it. How does starting these engines work when you put, say a Honda or a Harbor Freight engine into it? With those engines will it be like a traditional golf cart, when you push on the gas pedal it will start up and go? If so can someone tell me how you would do that? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the Big block talk section and check out the clone section. Do a lot of reading and you will find out how everyone has done this. You can build your cart to the way you want it to run. I always built mine to start and stop with the pedal.

I used the starter/generator that the cart came with. This is a G9 with a 420 harbor freight motor.

Ok, when I bought my cart, it did not have a coil or the black igniter box it think it is called. Do I need those two things to make this work?

One more thing just to clarify, to use the pedal to start and stop you just have to use the starter and generator? Or are there itching things you need to use from the old engine?

If your S/G rolls over when you hit the pedal thats all you need it to do.
