Default my g1 wont start on its own

i have a 1981 g1 and the only way it starts is if i put the rear end in the air on jacks and put somethin on the pedal for a couple of minutes. Once it gets started and warms up it will start on the ground but you have to give it a little push to help. any ideas?

Do you always hear the solenoids "click"? Do you know your battery is good ? I'd take the starter/generator apart/clean it/check for damage on the comutator (were the brushes ride) and see if the brushes a good or stuck. Good luck Dave

Take the drive belt off and see if the engine will run.

alright here is what has happened so far. the selonoid clicks but only once when i press the pedal down. is it supposed to continuously click? the spark plug is continuously sparking i checked. i took the drive belt off and the generator/starter moves at a fairly high pace no reason to thing it would be to slow to start it. is it easy to check the brushes like smallblock450sl said?

Well, if it's turning over and you have spark, I would look at gas. Check all of the rubber hoses for cracks or breaks.
