Default G1 will not start

Hello. I am new to this website and have been reading threads during the last few days. My neighbor was throwing an old G1 away so I dragged it home to see if I could get it to run for my kids. I charged the battery and put in back in and nothing happens when I turn the key - no click either.

Anyway, reading threads, I jumpered the stop switch down by the pedal - Red to White wire and now it turns over - when I turn the key to forward or reverse, the starter/generator turns, but no gas engine power when I push the accelerator pedal down. So to start fixing this cart, I need a new stop switch, right?

As for the gas engine, is it supposed to fire up when the accelerator is pushed down? When I push down the pedal, I see the linkages moving. I am not getting a spark at spark plug. Checking voltage at the 3 wires (1 tiny) on the coil that the spark plug wire comes out of, none of the wires get 12v while the starter is running. Shoot, do I need to press the pedal down or should it have power anyway? Am I on the right track? Should the engine start with the stop switch jumpered like I have it? What should I check next?

I pulled the fuel line off at the carb, and it is pumping fuel.
Also, the big fat belt going from the clutch to engine pulley seems very loose?

Sorry, tons of questions - I never drove a G1 before.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Wiring diagram is in the stickies here. You should see that hot wire light up 12v when the pedal is pushed, or when key on if you jumper the pedal. It runs everything more or less, and its all off when the pedal is up. G1 have solenoids on the rear fender there, they run it forward and reverse, the key selects one of them. They can go bad, wiring can have poor connections, I'd check wiring first. The starter will turn if the engine is running or not, so you likely now have an issue getting the engine to run...fuel/fire/compression.

If your motor spins both directions, forward in "F" key position and reverse in "R" position, you are off to a good start. You need to remove the carb, disassemble, and clean clean clean. Then try again. You need to mix up a batch of 2-stroke gas, and only run on that until you know if your oil injection is working (roughly 2.5oz 2-stroke oil per gallon fuel). Also get a NGK "BP5HS" spark plug. Some slack in the drive belt is normal (big belt), lets not worry too much about that right now.

Thank for your input cgtech and sho305. Am I supposed to have I power to the orange wire feeding the small black/white wire attached to the coil with the starter running and pedal depressed? Still no spark. The orange wire has continuity to the CDM module connection, but no output from CDM. At least I think it is the CDM outboard of the voltage regulator on the right rear fender?

Is there a picture showing where all the electrical components are located?
Thanks.

I was looking for pics showing where the electrical parts are located on the golf cart and what they looked like. The link does not have CDM modules for sale or location of parts. Thanks though - I will use in the future to get parts.

Disconnect the Black and Black/White wires going into the switch under the gas pedal, and see if you get spark when you press the pedal(or jumper white to red/white). That will eliminate the switch as a possible cause of killing the ignition.

Thank you 1989Marathon. It worked! GasYammiRuns! I disconnected the wires and pressed the pedal down…nothing. Then I pulled the choke and it fired right up. Take a maiden voyage around the house.

The brakes which I thought would work as a little lube freed up the linkages under the pedal plate so the brake pedal returns home, does not work - yikes. And the Steering is terrible. Had to look down to see if the wheels were straight. Have to really turn the wheel quite a bit to make it turn.

SO I scratched the garage door trying to turn and trying to stop:.
Oh well, Brakes and Steering are next on the list.

Thanks for all the help guys. This site is friendly and helpful.
Regards,

Great! There are posts here on tightening up the steering box, doing kingpins, brakes. Sometimes the brakes just get frozen up and the shoes are good yet.
