Default Yamaha gas golf carts

I have a G2 that we have had tons of problems with. We pretty much bought someone else's problem in disguise and got ripped off. We have poured a lot of money into it and not we are pretty sure the motor is blown. It still drives slow but it clicks and puffs and shutters. My question is can we put a G8 engine into it?

Yep sure can. Read this http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...g9-g8-g14.html. This will help you answer your own question. Smallblock is the man around here. He knows Yamaha golf carts. It appears that all you need to do is take off the flywheel, pulsar coil, igniter, and coil from the G2 engine and put them on the G8 engine. Then simply install the engine. Mounting bolt location is all the same.

Does the engine smoke? Early Yamaha's ignition systems run off open/closed ground. The first thing I would try.....Yamaha "pigtailed" an 18 gauge wire lead with the main negative battery cable that attatches to the starter/generator stud. Cut off the 18 gauge wire and put an eye end on it and reatatch both to the stud. Do you have any excessories grounded to the frame?
