Default Loose rod bearing

Hi I'm putting together a yamaha 285cc g2 motor. The top end needs rebuilding I put new piston rings fresh bored cylinder. Joined the connecting rod and crank only to find out rod is loose on the crank after torque is there any way I can hone the mating surfaces of the connecting rod to tighten a thousands or two.

No, there were three possible bearings to use. It is difficult to judge the marking on the crank for which to use. This system allowed them to make use of more of their crank castings (i believe that was their reasoning). I usually advise to buy all three sizes & return the 2 that werent needed. You need 2 of each part number for bearing (each one is half the bearing). Avoid machine shop on this one if possible, it will make it even more confusing. J38-11656-00, J38-11656-10, J38-11656-20 were the part numbers. Remember, 2 of each.

Your to nice CG, I would never take back rod bearings Plastigage would be the best test. In my experiance -10's work the most often.

Or just consider the $24 worth of un-needed bearings part of the cost of the rebuild.

Thanks so much I got the motor back together crank checked out. And back in today for some reason the thing acts like the timing is off back fires like crazy and like clock work it has a ruthenium to the backfire. Then all of a sudden starts up runs fine at high and low rpm. But if it dies very hard to get started again I'm going to start with engine grounding. I think I've had issue like this before.
