New project 2015 Yamaha G29 Drive Carb Version
Well this is my new project. This is my first cart so im pretty excited about it.
I've been researching for a while and decided on this brand new 2015 Drive G29 Carburated. I ordered it because I wanted the carb version and all my local dealer had where EFI units. I wanted the carb version so I could tweak it and work on it a lot easier. I also wanted the 2015 because it has the new and I guess you could say old Dana/Shaffer style rear axle and the lower 11.25 to 1 lower gears. I found out that all the 2016 models come with 8 to 1 high speed gears. Sense I was going to lift and install larger tires I did not want the high speed gears. It's soon to be transformation will include: Jakes long travel. Jakes HD rear coils. ITP Hurricane matte black 12" wheels. Maxxis Ceros 23x10x12 tires. M&M Vehicle Corp 3 in 1 package carrier. black with rear hitch. Red Hawk fender flares. Full LED see legal light kit. Brakes, blinkers, etc. Plowman carts clutch and engine tuning kit. Plowman rear posi traction kit for true 2wd. Grizzly Metalworks 16" front sporting clays winch mount brush guard. Winch. Ex-Ray speedometer kit. Various other offroad LED lighting. Possibly some sort of Camo vinyl wrap. Might add Jakes front brake kit. Camo hunting enclosure. I am building this cart to use at the deer lease, around the farm, at the lake house, at the beach and around my neighborhood. I figured a golf cart is the most versitle means of transportation I could have to use at all those locations. This is why I am going all out with it. I will take pictures and update as I move along with this build. I should start ordering parts next week. It's gonna be fun. |

Re: New project 2015 Yamaha G29 Drive Carb Version
Well a little update and more of questions for you guys.
I haven't done anything to the cart as of yet except adjust the governor. I have ordered some parts that should be here this week sometime. I ordered: Jakes Long travel lift 5 panel mirror Slow moving vehicle triangle Full LED Street leagal light kit, with stop, blinkers, horn, etc. Extended fender flares. 12x7 ITP Hurricane Wheels with 2x5 offset. I have a question for you guys regarding tire size. I was planning on running 23x10x12 tires but I am considering running 25x10x12 The tires will be Maxxis Ceros. Will the 25 inch tires fit my 2015 Yamaha G29 Drive with the Jakes Long Travel lift with no issues? I would like the little extra ground clearance. My other questions is will the 25's make that much difference over the 23's as far as loss of low in pulling power/torque goes? I plan on doing the full Plowman upgrade. IE clutch tuning, belt, jets for carb, intake mod and filter, and exhaust upgrade. Do you think doing the full Plowman setup will make the 25's be ok and the cart still be able to tow and climb hills, etc. What are you guys thoughts? 23's or 25's and why? Will the 25's fit with the Jakes Long Travel? Thanks in advance. You guys have been a great help. |

Am I posting in the wrong section?
Nobody has any input on this? I talked to Don Plowman a little earlier and he got me the answers I needed. Sending my secondary out to him tomorrow. |

I have a G-29 with the jakes 6" spindle lift with 23" tires and I had to trim the rocker panels for my tire size I would think you would need to cut more with 25" tires.

Never put 25s on a drive, sorry... 23s require cutting of the "kick panel" at the rear wheel area.

Well after talking to Don today this evening I tore down the cart and removed the secondary clutch. I think it could have been engineered better to where I didn't have to ubolt the transaxle to remove the clutch but oh well it wasn't that difficult.
I will be shipping it to Plowman's tomorrow. I also ordered tires today. Maxxis Ceros 23x10Rx12. Does anyone know what size wheel spacers I will need for the rear to match the front width with the jakes long travel? |

Re: New project 2015 Yamaha G29 Drive Carb Version
Dang you really have it stripped down. Not sure why you had to unbolt the transaxle to remove the secondary. I use a 1/2" ratchet with a 12mm socket. Hold the clutch with one hand and loosen the bolt with the other. It will just slip right off the shaft.
On to your question about 25" tires. I have had multiple setups on several g29 carts. Non lifted cart on 20" tires. 3" lifted on 22" tires, and 6" lifted on 23" tires. Really not much difference in the 22-23" tires. The problem I had with the 6" lift is that it's just too tall when getting on and off the back with a rear flip seat. No matter what size lift kit you put on the cart the transaxle is still gonna be low to the ground and will get hung up in ruts, trees, rocks etc if you do any off-roading. The larger the diameter tire is what will raise the rear diff up out of harms way. Plowmans can put you together a setup that will get your cart going pretty well even with 25" tires. You will have to trim a pretty good amount of plastic to clear 25" tires though. Honestly I feel like 25" would be a bit tall and have a tippy feeling unless you put some additional spacers to increase the overall width. Also you can find 25" tires all over craigslist from people with atvs and side x sides that removed them from brand new vehicles at great prices. But most are 2 ply tires. When you get the plowmans kit we can help you with any questions you might have with the carb setup. I've installed 3 of his kits to date. |
