Default Anyone else with a g11? Possible build

Just picked up a G11 with no spark. Needs some other work so im going to start by seeing if I can get it to run. Anyone else out there with one? I would love to see one all nice an built for some ideas. Thinking about a 6inch lift, paint, wheels and tires if I can get it fixed. its a 1993. Pics to come.

G11 has a G8 motor i believe (as far as electronics). It is also known as a "Yamahauler". Check this out, built by a fellow BGW member. His is a G21, but very similar to yours. -> http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...d-up-g21a.html <-

Is the ignition system all screwed-up "cut & splice , mix & match" nonsense. Just using the wrong ignition box with the wrong flywheel will give spark, but too poor to run. If it werent for this place, the one i dealt with (with mix & match parts) would have driven me insane.

very cool. I'm hoping to get some time today to work on it a bit and snap some pics. My amazon order came this week with a tube and a new carb. I gotta pop the wheel off and get that fixed so I can at least push it around the garage. The throttle plate in the carb was completely seized so I just picked up another carb for $29! this is way cheaper than race cars or boats lol. Yes the ignition system is all screwed up, there are splices on every piece. The correct harness is not available. I did order a JR8-H2590-00 Harness thinking maybe I could adapt but none of the plugs are the same. The correct harness is a JJ3-82590-02 and no one appears to have it. I messed with it a bit last weekend and got it to turn over but I dont think I had it wired right. I took the red / white wire and hooked it to the wire that goes to the solenoid just to see if I could get it to trigger and turn over. Successful but not correct I know. At least now I know the pedal switch is working as does the solenoid and starter. I have the diagram so hopefully today I can make some progress getting it sorted out.

The "real yamaha carb" is over $290, good luck with that carb. Im gonna guess you got that from china. I hope you dont buy your race car carbs from the china "Mik-oh-no" carb joint.

Yea i figured it would be from China, but the cart was free so needed something just to see if it would even run. My car has a demon on it, close to a G plus flow testing and some custom work. So I spent a bunch of time on it today with varying degrees of success and failure. It was cranking super slow and then not at all. So I took the starter out and found the brushes must have gotten wet or something and were corroded and stuck in the brush holder. So I rebuilt that and put it back together, boom cranks like a shiny new cart. I still cant seem to get any spark though. I used the diagram and traced everything out. I am getting 7v at the orange wire going to the coil and 12v at the red going to the coil. Is that normal? I have 12v going to the igniter at the red / white wire and the same going to the regulator. Any ideas or tests that anyone knows about would be appreciated. Good grounds as well. I attached some pics for reference.

Wow does that wiring look rough, maybe a squirrel got to it at one point. Think I would test ohms at those connectors, there are a ton of them and any one could be bad. IMHO only exterior crimpers are any good (or whatever they call them), the ones that put a hole in the connector. Also check any ground wire, most yamaha are wired ground only the engine cradle might be ground. And they do get faults in the wiring. There may be a couple fuses as well. Look in the stikies posts see if your cart has wiring diagram listed.

thanks sho. It's not pretty. I have the diagram and have traced the wires. Checking all the splices is a good idea, I will do that. There could def be a bad one. I know I have power going goine where it should. However I need to know how to test the pickup, and what should the coil be seeing. My assumption is that the orange wire is the trigger and the red /w is the power. I just spoke to the guy I got it from and he said when it was running it had intermittent spark. So maybe your onto something with these splices. He also said he swapped all the electrical components to another cart to test and all worked find on the other cart. Igniter, coil, V reg, and even starter.

I think the problem might be that the incorrect plug & ignitor is spliced on the wire harness (looks like G2 style). Pull the cover loose on the passenger side of engine and look at the "trigger point" on the flywheel (removal of flywheel is not needed to see this). The flywheel on the left is correct for a G2, the one on the right is correct for a G11. If your motor has the G11 style flywheel, it wont work with the G2 style ignitor thats spliced on your cart. If they are mismatched, you would need to change to the correct ignitor (& plug), or the correct flywheel and pulser (pulser is spaced different).
