Default Broken spacer

The spacer between the carb and motor has broken for the second time on my G14. I had put a cone filter like the one shown . I noticed the filter was moving a good bit . Do you think the filter sticking straight out causes the plastic spacer to crack and eventually break off ? The cart runs a lot better with it being I have Plowmans larger jets in the carb . He recommended just taking the foam outer filter off the inner one but I had to see how a more open filter would work . With this second spacer breaking I may just put the stock housing back on . Seems the pipe on top may give more support to the carb and not let the spacer to break. What is your thoughts ?

Wouldn't think that small of air filter would cause it to break but could be wrong.... Can you run the cart with seat up is there excessive vibration like a worn out motor mount?

i made one out of steel for mine , took a piece on pipe and cut it so the angles are where they need to be and welded two small plates on it then drilled two holes one one side and welded two studs two the other ... took about a day to do it . i should have taken a picture of it before i installed it , but this one will never break ... i cant believe no one sells a steel aftermarket one , maybe i should start ... hnmmmm

Motor mounts are good . It does vibrate at idle a tad as I have removed the balancer in my motor after the shaft broke inside. Wasn't spending over 200 on another balancer. Some on here in another thread suggested others had removed their balancer too. No vibration at rpms above idle . I know you can't tighten the studs very much or they will crack the spacer. With the carb and that cone filter sticking out on the two studs don't know if that could have caused another to break or not. Anyway got another coming now and put stock breather back on for time being.

Bama, you can't beat the stock air box and filter!! Just gut the interior parts and snorkel, then, drill out the stock main jet to .042 to start!! Only way to go!!

And, always use new gaskets with installing that spacer!! Less torque of the screws and nuts to get a seal!!

Mac what exactly you mean gut the interior? I have plowmans performance kit with larger jets already in it but not sure what size they are. He told me to just remove the foam filter from the paper one. Is there anything else you were referring to? It is quieter with the stock filter but does not let the motor have as much pickup compared to the cone filter. When my new spacer comes in I will check the jet in it now with some drill bits and see what size I come up with .

Just remembered from one of my previous threads I had checked the stock jet and it is .040 or is the same as a #60 drill bit . a #58 drill bit is .042.

What I did to mine, I did 6+ yrs ago, but I took everything out except the round disc just above the paper filter. I enlarged the area where the air flows inside the box, and I removed the snorkel alltogether!! There are pic in G8 somewhere!! And I am still using the paper filter I bought 6 yrs ago!!

The jet Plowman sent me is .055, but that may be that we are doing different things with our cars!!

Mac my new spacer come in and thought while I had the carb off I would look at the jet Plowman sent me to see if I could figure what size it is . You had said to drill out the old jet to .042. The jet Plowman sent is bigger than that . Didn't have the right size number bit to see exactly so won't drill out the stock til I know for sure in case I want a larger one than whats in it now. Next time I am in Harbor Freight I am picking up a whole set of number bits to have on hand.

Oh yea I removed the snorkel on my breather too and and the top on mine had another place on it that looked like an opening could be so I cut that out . Now have two openings for air . Will try that for a while.

Bet he sent the same jet. I used a set of torch tip cleaners to find the size. Sliding the smooth part of the torch tip into the jet, that just fit, then used a mic to find the size!!

Does your car run good with what you've done?

As far as the inlet holes, just so water doesn't get into the air box when washing or riding in wet weather or swampy terain!!
