Default help w/g1 gas yamaha

Having a problem with taking off. Not sure if this is common but here goes, the electric motor is doing it's job but the 2 cycle engine is not starting as quickly as it should. If you give it a little push it will start quickly, but if warm it will take quite a while to start to run on it's own. Please help, it runs very good once it catches, but sometimes if you go too slow, it will have a hard time catching to get going again. Hope some one has some ideas to help me! Thanks for the help in advance and great site for golf cart guys. I'm new to this site and if anyone can figure out what's going on I'm sure one of you can. I have not done anything to the cart since I just got it, but I'm pretty sure the service is non existent on this machine.

sounds like a bad head gasket...do a compression check and let us know what it turns up then we will work from there...

How can I tell if its the head gasket or just low on compression? How much compression should it have and how much should leak down?

you need to borrow a compression tester that you fit into the spark plug hole an crank the engine over....either ask your buddys or go to an auto parts store that lends out tools and see if they have one you can use....compression SHOULD be over 100PSI...let me know....

O'kay, did the comp chk and it hit 120 and stayed there for at least 2:00 min. or better. tried changing plug also just not sure what is supposed to go in this. Got the plug # off e-bay and not sure what it should take. How important is the proper plug and d/c current (battery)? No genius but I would say Everything! Still need help, the new plug seemed really nice for about 10 min of riding or so, then it starts to show signs of low power and even a little push to just get it going again. This has to be something simple, but I don't know this machine like some of you guys do. TIA

Compression seems to be OK....I'm curious as to what the plug looks like after 10 minutes of driving. You say it runs good for 10 minutes...then starts acting up again? Does it start good when you change the plug then get worse?

Take out the new plug and see if its all black and sooty looking or a whitish color. Black sooty= rich condition and fouling plugs. Whiteish color=lean condition and burning plugs. Either way it sounds like a carb/fuel related issue to me.

How fresh is the gas? Is the engine smoking when it runs good? I believe you
have an oil mixer for the 2 cycle oil. If the spark plug is fouling out, you may
need an adjustment on the oil mixer.

i know when the oil injectors fail they lock into the maximum position to prevent engine damage. im thinking your oil injector (if its still there) might be causing the problem....you can either go though some diagrams and figure out what might be wrong with your injector or, i think the best option is to take it off completely, drain all your gas, drain the carb, and start mixing your gas....

Definately running rich, you can smell the gas as it is trying to start. If the oil injector needs adjusting how do I do that? What plug is the best for the yamaha 2 cycle engine? So many questions, such a slow typist.
