Yamaha g14 start and run issues
Yamaha g14 was backfiring through carb when starting , read some where ground was bad , ran ground wire from starter to valve cover . Started idled perfect won't accelerate. Put on new carb and fuel pump removed fuel cap , confirmed fuel coming from pump, checked filter clean. Removed ground wire I installed no start not even turn over. Found fuse was blown by the solenoid ,replaced now starts but back fires replaced ground from started lug to valve cover, idles great ,blew fuse instantly. This makes no sense as I only grounded what was already grounded starter bolts to motor so ground should go through bolts . I've worked on everything from motorcycles to jet skis has me stumped .any help appreciated.

Re: Yamaha g14 start and run issues
Sounds like you have voltage running around the motor somewhere. Maybe you should replace the fuse remove the new ground strap, start it and check with a volt meter. Maybe you have a loose connection somewhere. Maybe it's jumping spark. Could be a bad igniter. The backfire leads me to believe that you don't have full spark on the end of the plug but that it's jumping somewhere. Just throwing ideas out. The experts will be here soon.
Also try disconnecting the reverse buzzer and run it. It may change things. I've read many threads about the buzzer goes bad and effects the spark. |

Re: Yamaha g14 start and run issues
Good point. At one time my cart started having non starting issues and it turned out to be the reverse buzzer. DID a whole lot of other things before I narrowed it down to that.

Re: Yamaha g14 start and run issues
Reverse buzzer is has been disconnected from switch since I have been trying to figure out problem . I got the cart given to me if I could get running . Was told it ran fine they quit using it for towing dragster for about a year then it wouldn't run when decided to sell . Original owner worked on it off and on for about a year and gave up. Told me to come get it before he crushed it .looked at wiring diagram looks like fuse sends power to everything that need power. So with fuse blown I don't see how it could run.

Re: Yamaha g14 start and run issues
Was looking at wiring diagram and the fuse holder goes to ground side of starter ,correct?
Mine is on the positive post. So if that Is wrong what did it damage? |
