Default Stuck G2 cylinder head

Long time reader - 1st post. Got a G2 last summer that was still running but smoking a lot so planned on rebuilding it over the winter. So now have cart torn down, prepping for paint, frame over to kids for some rust repair and ready to tackle engine. Got it out of cart and cannot, for the life of me get the cylinder head off.

Have tried beating it with a rubber hammer, a block of wood, and used a can of PB Blaster to no avail. Don't have enough compression to pop it off with the plug in so am at wits end. (BTW I do have the 5 head bolts out). I heard of putting some nylon rope in the plug hole, then turning the engine to get it to pop, but don't have any rope so that attempt will have to wait until tomorrow.

From what I've seen on here so far, you guys seem to have an answer for anything.

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows of a solution.

There is a head bolt kinda under the rocker arm shaft. Remove the rocker shaft support.

In the words of Phil Mickleson - "I am such an Idiot".

Guess I'll be buying the hardcopy of the service manual instead of trying to make out the PDF version.

Thanks so much Mike!

Ah yes. The service manual is worth whatever you paid for it, especially when doing a full engine rebuild. That is my first response to anyone doing an engine job for the first time.

Glad you got it off, hopefully no damage from tapping on it.

From one Iowan idiot, to another!! No problem, glad we got it!!

And I don't agree with needing a manual, I think being familiar with this site is MUCH better!! Many smart people here!!

Having done the motocross thing in my younger days, I thought "no problem". Shows what I know.

Wouldn't have thought to start without the manual, but do agree that this site is invaluable. It's already shown me how to fix my rusted frame rail and the right way to prep for paint.

If and when I ever get the chance to rebuild my motor, I will take it apart and take the parts to a speed shop, and have them tell me what needs to be done. But I want a hot rod motor!!

And good luck on you venture!!
