Yamaha g2 starter /generator wires hot
I picked up this older yamaha g2 and replaced wireso that a squirrel had chewed up, pretty straight forward fix but it has a weird issue where sometimes it will run other times it wont. When it won't start the motor only turns over maybe one turn and stops. I press the gas again and it turns over one more revolution and stops. It won't just continue cranking. I noticed today that the starter generator had a small amount of smoke coming out of it , I felt the 2 large positive wires on the starter and they where smoking hot. I did take the starter to a local shop and they verified that the starter looked good internally and didn't need to be rebuilt. Any ideas?

Re: Yamaha g2 starter /generator wires hot
The first thing I would do is, take the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested.
If it tests good, (which I'm gonna guess it won't), I'd buy new battery cables and replace the old ones. Install those and see if that fixed it. |

Re: Yamaha g2 starter /generator wires hot
I just replaced my Relay and Starter/Generator and it starts like new again. I first went through all the connections and grounds, then tested everything. I got a NEW Hitachi Starter/Generator on Ebay for $90 and its made specifically for my golf cart. Very inexpensive compared to $250 or more i see everywhere else. I installed in 2 hours ago and what a charm. Good luck

Re: Yamaha g2 starter /generator wires hot
just installed new starter/gen, solenoid, fuel filter and spark plug this **** G14 I bought last week and the thing still doesn't turn over.... getting 12v into the solenoid until I push the pedal then the voltage drops...the red wire coming out of solenoid to starter is only getting 6v while I press the pedal.this thing is driving me crazy also I have a black wire with a fuse that keeps blowing. and just to be sure does that wire with the fuse go to the starter A2 post? I'm thinking I have a bad ground somewhere I just cant figure it out

Re: Yamaha g2 starter /generator wires hot
I also have one more question, the one thing I haven't gotten yet is a battery, the one I have is fully charged and has 12v and 850CCA, is this enough cranking amps for my Yamaha g14?

Re: Yamaha g2 starter /generator wires hot
Plenty of cranking amps is it a straight 12 a fully charged battery is 12.5 or so if it's only 12 I would definitely swap it out with a known good battery and give it a try

Re: Yamaha g2 starter /generator wires hot
Yep it was the battery, And the battery I was using to jump the cart was bad also!!! Lol just my luck, now I am dealing with fuel issues, the filter is clear and brand new but I don't see any Gas going into it and the cart is bogging down a lot so I'm gonna install the new fuel pump I ordered and see what happens
