Question Yamaha G1 starts on idle but won't rev up and engage 2 drive

I have a Yamaha G1 , when I depress the throttle, it just idles. It does the same thing in the morning when she's cold, but pulling the choke makes her rev high enough to engage the drive. But now when I pull the choke all I get is a faint change in the sound she's making, she just won't idle up high enough to get gowing ...

Any ideas....will be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a broke throttle cable. Check at the pedal and the governor.

Lets clarify... Just because the engine on a G1 spins on the starter, and tries to turn the wheels does not mean it "idles". Golf cart engines do not "idle", they stop running when you let off the gas. Unless you can hear distinctive "pop-pop-pop" sounds from the exhaust, its not running at all. First, check for throttle movement by pressing gas pedal with key off to see if throttle at carb moves with pedal press. Second check spark while cranking engine (with a spark tester, or your spark plug grounded to the engine). If the spark test & throttle test is passed, spray a shot of ether or carb cleaner down the carb air inlet (only a brief test, as it provides no lubrication for the engine provided with the regular fuel mix). If these tests dont provide signs of life, do a compression test, anything over 100psi should run (maybe not a lot of power at 100psi, but does run, seen engines with as little as 85psi "run").

Throttle cable . Check good
Spark test. Check good

Shot of ether into carb, motor fires up and runs briefly, until it runs out of ether.

So this lends me to believe there is an issue with fuel delivery.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to check the fuel filter, any other suggestions or ideas will be great. Thanks again CGTECH

After further checking ....
Fuel filter was good....fuel in tank good
But I'm not getting any suction on the hose that feeds the fuel pump

Could air in the pump be causing a problem ?

What is the best way to check the fuel pump...?

Thanks for your help

Best way to check fuel pump pull fuel hose off at carb and turn it over should push fuel out... If nothing comes out its either bad fuel pump or worn out crank seals

The cart ran out of gas, and I cranked it, I was wondering if I got air in the pump, and it needed to be primed, don't know if that's plausible ??

Any thoughts. ?

OK here is the latest. ....
I pulled the fuel line feeding the carb......ran the hose into an empty water bottle, Get this....
No fuel when stepping on the gas pedal.....but when you remove your foot from the gas pedal it shoots some gas our of the line ...?

Thanks again yall for all the input. I patiently await some more input.

That dont make no sense to me. The fuel pump operates on pulses made by piston "up-&-down" movement only, it dont know you let off the pedal.
