Default Just picked up a G14

Just picked up a G14 today. They said it hasn't started in a while. They put it away because the changed the belt an it just started going slow. Belt looked super loose. Didnt have a chance to look at it much. Stop by and pressure washed it as it was caked with mud ( it was 2 teenage boys cart on a farm). Took belt off and drive clutch just flops around like spring is broken. It just stays where ever you put it. Tried for a second to start it seems like she wants too but wont. Could have been wet from washing or who knows how old gas is. Want to get her running but then probably just taking motor out and take my 18hp vanguard i'm working on out of the G2 and putting it in the G14 and putting my clone back in the G2. I was looking at parts diagram for g14 and it shows 2 transmissions one you have to split the cast the other has a diff cover like the G16's. I have the one like the G16. Part numbers are the same as G16 so does anyone know if that is the one i can put the posi in???? Plan on Vanguard, Jakes Long Travel (G2 has the Jakes double A Arm but wish i would have went with LT), front disc brakes and 25 inch tires.[IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

I'm pretty sure the G16 can fit a posi, when I'm ready for mine I'm calling plowmans carts. Have you tried calling them? I hear they are helpful. Good luck on the build, I traded away a G9 with a clone motor in it years ago only because I wanted posi and didn't want to weld the gears.

You have the Dana axle. There are a few Posi options for it. RXV posi fits your axle and is a true "clutch style automotive limited slip diff" (its expensive, but its the real deal like a car or truck), others offer kits to convert your "one-legger" carrier to posi. The G2-G5-G8-G9-G11-G14 ignitions are much more sensitive to water than newer models (when you wash it), good news is when it dries out it works again. When its dry, shoot a squirt of ether/carb cleaner/brake cleaner down the carb and see if it fires up briefly. The clutch on the engine (aka Primary Sheave in yamaha speak) does not have a spring, and should slide in and out with ease. Also the drive belt is supposed to have some slack. Lets get the engine running before we worry too much about clutches, belts, and posi.

Got a chance to look at it for 5 mins yesterday. Little shot of starting fluid and she started right up. They had the muffler off of it so it was pretty loud. Constant little flame shooting out of header. Not going to spend to much time on this engine just would like to see how she runs, yank it and put it up for sale so I can put the Vanguard or the predator 420 in it. Leaning towards vanguard, putting 420 back in the G2 and slowly building the g14. Guy I know just got a powder coat setup big enough for car frames so might strip the g14 down and get it powder coated and go from there.

So got a chance to have a look at the g14. Found out why it was so slow. Throttle cable from pedal to rear end is broken. Throttle was stuck at about 1/8 throttle But that's not all of it. Also found out the motor mounts are shot and the motor tensioner was not hooked up. Looked like front mounts were ok but backs are toast. Back is sitting metal to metal like 3/4 of an inch behind where its supposed to sit and lower than its supposed to. Secondary ramp shoes are gone and it tore up the sliding sheeve and the helix. So a combo of those things i'm guessing it was really low. Got muffler mounted but need to get it welded. muffler stay bracket was busted but i had the stock one from the g2 and it was the same but pipe is busted where it goes into the muffler so for now its just sitting in the muffler. Motor ran good though controlling it by hand.
