Question 1998 yamaha g16 crank case leak?

Hello all, I have a Yamaha g16 that has a crankcase leak... The oil leaks out of a small hole near the dipstick, I have cleaned the engine block with gunk engine degreaser but after 2 weeks instead of the thick crud oil that was covering the hole before being there it was gold oil, the cart runs fine otherwise but how should i go about sealing this hole , JBWELD, Silicone, put bars leak oil seal in, etc...?

Pull the clutch and side cover and replace the gasket.

Question Re: 1998 yamaha g16 crank case leak?

Could i use a gasket repair additive (bars leak engine stop leak)for the meantime? Im rebuilding the engine in the fall but i need to get a season out of it for work around my land.

I would not use any additives. You can try cleaning it and using a quality rtv gasket maker to seal it temporarily. Pretty difficult to get it clean enough for the sealer to stick.

I have used gunk engine degreaser in the past, it usually can get it very clean, I will try rtv sealer in a couple of days and post my results, It is currently very cold where i am and i cannot use the gunk degreaser with how cold it is where i live

The season hasn't started yet, now would be a good time to put new gasket in.You can do it in an afternoon.

I do not have time to do that so the golf cart will have to wait. Plus i do not have an impact gun for the clutch removal, hopefully rtv sealer will do the trick for now. I want to have a work place too so i dont contaminate the crankcase. Im having a garage built in May. Will i have to lift the engine out?

Can be done in the cart wit care. Never use the additives in a "splash oiled" yamaha. The system uses no pump to circulate oil, so correct viscosity is critical. Anything that affects oil viscosity is gonna be trouble.

Ok if i had to hoist the motor i would just give up and trade it in. figure i could just remove the battery and muffler. It will also give me a good excuse to take the body apart because i want to paint it.
